9th Class Smart Syllabus English – ALP 2025-2026

The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Authority (PECTA) has officially released the 9th Class Smart Syllabus English for the academic year 2025-2026. This “Smart Syllabus” is designed to help students focus on core concepts and prepare effectively for their annual exams.

Below, you’ll find a complete breakdown of the syllabus, exam pattern, and key topics to concentrate on.

The following chapters and topics have been removed from the 9th Class Smart Syllabus English and will not be part of the annual exam 2026. You should focus your studies on the remaining content.

Essential Instructions for Paper Setters

  • Total marks: 75
  • Objective Type: 19 marks
  • Subjective Type: 56 marks
  • Time: 2 hours 30 minutes (Objective: 20 minutes, Subjective: 2 hours 10 minutes)

Part-I: Objective Type (Q.1 – 19 MCQs)

  • (a) Correct form of verb – 5 marks
  • (b) Correct spelling – 4 marks
    • Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 + Review-I (excluding Unit 5) – 2 marks
    • Units 7, 9, 11 + Review-II (excluding Units 8 & 10) – 2 marks
  • (c) Meanings of underlined word – 5 marks
    • Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 + Review-I – 2 marks
    • Units 7, 9, 11 + Review-II – 3 marks
  • (d) Grammar – 5 marks
    • From entire textbook (excluding Units 5, 8, 10) + English Grammar & Composition 9-10

Part-II: Subjective Type

  • Q.2 (a): Answer any 3 out of 5 questions – 6 marks
    • Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 + Review-I (excluding Unit 5) – 3 questions
    • Units 7, 9, 11 + Review-II (excluding Units 8 & 10 and play portion) – 2 questions
  • Q.2 (b): Answer any 1 out of 2 questions – 4 marks
    • Unit 11: The Dear Departed (Play) + Review-II (Play portion only)
  • Q.3: Translate any 2 paragraphs into Urdu / Rewrite into simple English – 8 marks
    • Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 – 2 paragraphs
    • Units 7, 9 – 1 paragraph
  • Q.4: Write summary of a poem OR Explain a stanza with reference – 5 marks
  • Q.5: Use any 5 words/phrases/idioms in sentences – 5 marks
    • Units 1–6 + Review-I – 3 items
    • Units 7, 9, 11 + Review-II – 5 items
  • Q.6: Write a letter, story, or dialogue – 8 marks
  • Q.7: Read passage and answer questions – 10 marks
