Skills Training Program for 100,000 Youth in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a skills training program to train and secure job placements for 100,000 young individuals across the province. The initiative, part of Punjab’s skilled manpower export strategy, aims to empower youth with marketable skills, create employment opportunities, and boost the economy.

Key Highlights of the Skills Training Program:

1. Target of 100,000 Youth:
   • The government has set a target to train and place 100,000 young individuals in jobs, both locally and abroad.
   • A comprehensive plan will be developed to send skilled workers overseas, with priority access to business cards and loans for trained individuals.
2. Skills on Wheels Initiative:
   • To reach youth in remote areas, the “Skills on Wheels” project will be launched in collaboration with the private sector.
   • This mobile training program will bring skill development opportunities to underserved communities.
3. Call Center Training Program:
   • A ‘plug and play’ call center system will be introduced, with 5,000 youths receiving six-week training in the first phase.
   • Graduates can secure jobs earning approximately Rs 100,000 per month.
4. Empowering Women Through Training:
   • 480 women will receive training at the Garment Training Institute in Quaid-i-Azam Business Park.
   • Trainees will benefit from pick-and-drop facilities, a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000, and job placements in large textile groups.
5. Expanding IT and Hospitality Training:
   • Under the CM Skilled Punjab Initiative, 4,000 youth have completed international IT certifications, with plans to expand this to 10,000 participants.
   • A six-month free hospitality training program, in collaboration with a British institution, will offer job placements for graduates.
6. Inclusive Training for Transgender Individuals:
   • 1,600 transgender individuals have completed skills training in textile, makeup, and backstage production.
   • Trainees received a stipend of Rs 8,000 per month and are being supported through the “Tabeer” job placement program.
7. Digital Training for Rural Women:
   • 27,000 applications have been received for a rural women digital training program.
   • Participants will receive free desktop computers and training in English and IT.
8. Centralized Digital Dashboard:
   • A centralized digital dashboard for the Punjab Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department will go live by mid-April to streamline training and placement initiatives.

CM’s Vision for Youth Empowerment

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of equipping youth with skills to drive national development. She stated:

Immediate Reversal of Double-Decker Bus Fare Hike

In a separate decision, CM Maryam Nawaz ordered an immediate rollback of the fare increase for double-decker sightseeing buses operated by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP).

• The fare hike, which raised ticket prices from Rs 200 to Rs 500, was reversed.
• Corporate, educational, and commercial booking fees, which had increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000, were also restored to previous rates.
• The CM emphasized that the bus service should remain affordable to promote tourism in Lahore.
